Mark was born in Hawaii and raised in Tecumseh, Michigan. Mark graduated from Tecumseh High School in 1970 and from Regis University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration, minor in Economics, in 1974. Mark became self-employed in 1978 by purchasing a laundry, drycleaner and car wash. Over the years, Mark has grown the business, adding an indoor tanning salon, and recently a fitness center to the existing profit centers. In 1997, Mary Murray joined the business while continuing her counseling vocation at Saline Schools, and in 2004, Mary opened a Beaner’s Coffee, a franchised specialty coffee store at The Image Center in Adrian, Michigan (www.adrianimagecenter.com).
Additional business experience has included operating a successful floor covering and home furnishing retail store; and opening and operating Little Caesar’s Pizza franchises on the Big Island and Maui, Hawaii. While there, Mark attended the University of Hawaii and completed department requirements for a BA in Philosophy and a minor in Religious Studies (Focus -East Asian religions).
Mark enrolled in the graduate school at Siena Heights University (where he met and proposed to Mary), and graduated with an MA in Community Counseling in 1997. Mark completed his Counseling internship with Dr. Robert Brady, a clinical psychologist in Toledo, Ohio and at Catholic Social Services in Adrian.
Mark has experience working on men’s issues, sexual abuse, grief and loss issues, group counseling, with a post graduate clinical focus on marriage counseling.
Mark volunteers for Southeastern Dispute Resolution Service as a mediator, handling dozens of successful mediations over the years. He has volunteered for Hospice of Lenawee, as a direct care volunteer, and has served as a member of the executive team of the board of directors, treasurer, and as a member of the bereavement committee. Mark and Mary have volunteered as facilitators at the Hospice bereavement camp.
Mark has been a member of the Graduate Council at Siena Heights University, where Mark and Mary received the Outstanding Recent Graduate recognition. Mark completed a BA in Church Ministry from Siena Heights University and a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from Dominican Center for Spiritual Direction in Michigan.
Mark and Mary have facilitated the marriage preparation weekend retreat program for the Lenawee / Hillsdale Catholic community and have presented numerous programs to the communities in both the Adrian area and Venice, Florida. Mark and Mary recently chaired the Lenawee County United Way Campaign, where Mary serves in a leadership capacity.
Mark’s love is his involvement with Rotary, a world-wide community service organization with 1.2 million members in over 30,000 clubs worldwide. He is past president of the Adrian Noon Rotary Club, past Assistant Governor and currently chairs the Adrian Rotary Foundation. Mark tries to live the Rotary Four-Way Test in his daily life: “Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”
Mark enjoys playing drums in a local band, bike riding, reading, boating and cooking dinner for his beloved wife, Mary, and his family and friends.
Mary was born and raised in Bay City, Michigan. After graduating from high school, Mary attended nearby Delta Community College for two years. She transferred to and received her BA degree from Michigan State University in 1965, earning a degree in Special Education, with a specialization in teaching emotionally impaired children. After spending several years teaching in Hazel Park, Michigan, Mary re-located to Washington, D.C. She was employed by the District of Columbia Public Schools and taught in a newly developed program for severely emotionally impaired junior/high school aged students.
In the early eighties, Mary was awarded a Fellowship at The George Washington University for Graduate Studies. She completed a Master of Arts Degree in the area of Human Development from GWU. Mary has also spent time living in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Missing the beautiful state of Michigan, in particular the abundant lakes and rivers, as well as family, Mary returned to Michigan. She completed her Specialist Degree from Central Michigan University (Spy’s.) and became certified as a School Psychologist. Mary has worked in Northern Michigan and Saline, Michigan as a School Psychologist.
While attending Siena Heights University to pursue additional training in the area of counseling, Mary met and eventually married Mark! She also earned an M.A. degree in Community Counseling. Mary has worked as an Elementary School Counselor with the Saline Area Schools.
After 28 years of public school experience, Mary “retired” and began a second career as a small business owner/operator. Mary, along with Mark, owns and operates The Image Center, which is a cluster of business operations including a carwash, a Laundromat/dry cleaner, indoor tanning salon, and a fitness center.
Mary continues her love of teaching by working as an Adjunct Professor at Siena Heights University, teaching in the Graduate Studies program. In addition, she has extensive experience in presenting retreats focusing on marriage preparation, communication and conflict resolution skills. She is a trained presenter for PREP (Prevention and Relationship Enhancement Program) and Protecting God’s Children (a VIRTUS program focusing on the prevention of child sexual abuse).
She is a licensed Professional Counselor, and has certification as a Trauma and Loss Specialist (through The National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children).
Mary is a member of the Adrian Noon Rotary Club and has volunteered as a Hospice Bereavement Counselor. She is a member of St. Mary of Good Counsel Catholic Church, where she has been the chair of the Parish Council.
Mary has a passion for laughter, traveling, gardening, and a good book. She is committed to striving for a peaceful world. Her most important goal is to have an intimate, joyful and exciting relationship with Mark.
